Quick facts
Getting ashore
When to visit Bar Harbor
Best June-September for mild weather and open services; September-early October adds fall foliage in Acadia National Park.
Getting back to the ship on time
Tender lines back at the pier can grow long late in the day, especially with multiple ships in port, so independent travelers should return from Acadia or downtown at least 90 minutes before all-aboard to allow for tender queue delays.
All-aboard is ship's time — check it in the daily programme, and set your watch to it.

A little history
Bar Harbor sits on Mount Desert Island; it grew as a Gilded Age summer resort for wealthy Americans.
Tipping 18–20% is standard in US restaurants; smaller tips are expected for taxis and tour guides.
Acadia's Cadillac Mountain is among the first US spots to see sunrise for much of the year.
Ships usually tender passengers ashore; the compact town is easily explored on foot.
