Quick facts
Getting ashore
When to visit Grand Cayman
Best December-April for dry, sunny mid-80s°F weather; May-November is the rainier hurricane season when rough seas can occasionally suspend tendering.
Getting back to the ship on time
The trap is stacking an off-site trip on top of a tender queue: a late stingray boat or beach taxi drops you into a line that can stretch several blocks in the 2-4pm rush, so independent travelers should be back at the terminal 90 minutes before all-aboard, and rough seas can halt tendering with little warning.
All-aboard is ship's time — check it in the daily programme, and set your watch to it.

A little history
Columbus named the islands 'Las Tortugas' in 1503 for their abundant sea turtles.
Dress is smart-casual; the islands feel polite, safe and reserved.
Tipping 15% is customary; some restaurants add a service charge.
A major financial hub, Grand Cayman is one of the Caribbean's most affluent islands.
