🇺🇸 Port Canaveral (Orlando), United States — Cruise Port Guide
The busiest cruise port on the planet, and the only one where you can watch a rocket launch from the ship. Cape Canaveral is next door, the Orlando theme parks are an hour inland, and the beach starts where the terminal car park ends.

Quick facts
Getting ashore
When to visit Port Canaveral (Orlando)
Cruise ships sail year-round from here, so there is no closed season — pick your month for the weather at the far end of the itinerary rather than for the homeport.
Good to know
Kennedy Space Center is a full day and cannot be squeezed into an embarkation morning. If a rocket launch is scheduled, road traffic around the cape gets heavy for hours beforehand — check the launch schedule against your arrival time.
Things to do in Port Canaveral (Orlando)
Kennedy Space Center
The Atlantis shuttle, a genuine Saturn V hanging above your head, and the bus tour out to the launch pads. It is a full day and it is worth the full day — but not on embarkation morning.
Cocoa Beach
Ten minutes south, wide and surfable, with the enormous Ron Jon Surf Shop open around the clock. The classic Florida beach afternoon.
Watch a rocket launch
Check the launch schedule before you sail. Jetty Park and the port basin both have clear sightlines, and ships at the pier get an unobstructed view over the cape.
Jetty Park
A beach, a fishing pier and a boardwalk right at the channel entrance — the closest spot to watch your own ship come in or head out.
Merritt Island wildlife drive
Black Point Wildlife Drive is a seven-mile loop through marsh full of roseate spoonbills, alligators and manatees, in the shadow of the launch pads.
Orlando theme parks
About an hour inland. Doable as a pre- or post-cruise day but not as a port day — the drive plus the park will eat far more time than a turnaround allows.
What to eat
- Rock shrimp
- Grouper sandwich
- Key lime pie
- Blackened mahi
- Craft beer

A little history
Port Canaveral handled over 8.6 million cruise passengers in 2025, edging PortMiami for the world's busiest cruise port.
Kennedy Space Center is immediately north, and launches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station are frequent enough that ships often announce them. Check the schedule — a night launch seen from a cruise deck is extraordinary.
Every Disney ship uses this port, which is why the terminals here are the most enthusiastically decorated in America.
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, which surrounds the space centre, is one of the best birding sites in the southeast — the security buffer around the launch pads accidentally created a nature reserve.
The port sits about 45 minutes from Orlando airport and an hour from Walt Disney World, which is why so many cruises here are the back half of a theme-park holiday.
