🇳🇴 Flåm, Norway — Cruise Port Guide

Quick facts
Getting ashore
When to visit Flåm
The main cruise season runs roughly April to October, peaking May through September. Summer days are long with temperatures typically 10-20°C, but fjord weather is changeable and rain showers are common — bring layers.
Getting back to the ship on time
The Flåm Railway round trip takes about two hours and departures sell out in peak season, so book early and leave buffer before all-aboard. Stegastein shuttle tours and longer fjord-cruise combinations to Gudvangen can run tight on shorter port calls.
All-aboard is ship's time — check it in the daily programme, and set your watch to it.

A little history
The Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) took nearly 20 years to build and opened in 1940; with gradients of 5.5 percent along most of its 20 km route, it is one of the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world.
Flåm Church, a small timber church a couple of kilometres up the valley, was built in 1670 partly using materials from a stave church that had stood on the site since around 1340.
The neighbouring Nærøyfjord, reached by boat from Flåm, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 together with Geirangerfjord as the 'West Norwegian Fjords'.
Though only about 350 people live in Flåm year-round, the village receives roughly 160 cruise-ship calls and around 450,000 visitors a year.
